Getting Here

Lesvos is very easy to get to from the UK, without having to resort to a package tour. In the summer you can buy direct flights from both Gatwick and Manchester from your travel agent. Just tell them the destination airport is Mytilene (MJT). All direct flights tend to leave and return on a Thursday.

I have never needed to do it, but you can also get direct flights from France, Germany, the Netherlands and Scandinavia as well.

Travellers from North America might like to consider buying a cheap flight to London Heathrow or Gatwick and then getting a direct charter flight from London Gatwick, these fly every Thursday throughout the summer.

In addition you can fly to Athens and then either get the ferry from Piraeus or Rafina or the internal Aegean Airways or Olympic Airways flight to Mytilene.

For flight bookings try the following:

cheapestflights.co.uk

This online booking company offers good value charter flights with most of the usual operators from the UK. I've used them a couple of times now and their service seems fine. They're ABTA bonded, so that gives the traveller some security.

travelrepublic.co.uk

Another online booking company that I've heard good things about. Again they're ABTA bonded, which gives you peace of mind.

lastminute.nl

This site is worth visiting, to check if there are cheap flights available to Lesvos or Athens from the Netherlands.

LTU

This company offers direct flights from from Germany.

Maersk Air

This company offers direct flights from from Denmark.

easyJet

This company runs daily scheduled flights from London Luton, London Gatwick and Berlin Schoenefeld to Athens. It's worth checking out the less popular days, like Monday for some really cheap deals. Prices tend to be very keen out of the main holiday season and their prices are cheaper the further ahead you book.

Olympic Airlines

It's worth checking with Olympic Airlines, particularly if you're travelling outside of the main holiday season and are booking well in advance. They will often quote keen prices right through to Mytilene, with the advantage that your baggage is checked through to your final destination.

British Airways

You can often get some good deals to Athens on World Offers. A friend of mine finds she gets the best prices if she actually goes to her local British Airways shop.

Once you arrive, you can either pick up a hire car at the airport or in Mytilene town or you can travel to your destination by taxi or bus.

If you know of any good cheap flight operators, particularly from Europe or North America, please email me details at info@lesvosisland.com.
